How You Can Help

Responding to  California Wildfires

Southern California is facing multiple uncontrolled fires, exacerbated by strong winds and dry conditions. Thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed, while tens of thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate and more than 57,000 homes are threatened.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is in communication with Presbyterian churches and pastors to offer resources in the aftermath of the fires. So far, we are aware of one Presbyterian church that has been destroyed - Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church - and several more are threatened. More will be known once the fires are contained and evacuation orders have been lifted.

We lift up prayers for all those impacted by these devastating fires, for swift containment, and for the safety of the courageous first responders on the front lines.

The First Pres Response

Hurricane Relief Update

Goal Exceeded, Thank you!

With gratitude and excitement, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve surpassed our $25,000 fundraising goal for hurricane recovery efforts! Thanks to the generosity of our First Pres community, we’ve raised even more than we aimed for, and the funds will now be sent to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), helping to deliver essential aid to our North Carolina neighbors affected by hurricanes Helene.

This achievement underscores the strength and compassion of our community. As we look ahead, we’re already planning the next phase of support. Stay tuned for more updates on how you can continue to make an impact.

Recovery Team

Future Action from First Pres

Our Christian Outreach Committee will be organizing to put together cleanup buckets in the near term.  Plans are underway to establish a recovery mission team to go to western North Carolina when the way is clear for volunteer groups.

If you are interested in being a part of a recovery team, please contact Rev. Jay Sanderford.
