Church Finance Director
20 hours per week
$31,200 - $35,360 a year
Purpose: The Finance Director equips the saints for the work of ministry (Eph. 4:12) by providing effective management of the church’s financial resources and administrative activities, including the preschool.
Accountability: Supervised by the Pastor/Head of Staff and accountable to the Session’s Personnel Committee.
Responsibilities:
1. Under the direction of the Finance & Administration and Endowment committees, maintain sound financial accounting practices and budgetary control of the church’s financial assets, including the following:
a. Maintain secure records.
b. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial processes.
c. Reconcile bank and investment accounts.
d. Analyze the financial status of church operations monthly, distributing appropriate reports to church leaders and staff.
e. Coordinate the preparation of the church budget.
f. Maintain confidential contribution records and provide contribution statements as required.
g. Maintain employee data as required for outsourced payroll processing.
h. Oversee a bookkeeping assistant.
i. Provide staff support to the Finance & Administration and Endowment Committees.
2. Support administrative activities, including the following:
a. Collaborate with the office administrator on timely maintenance of the church’s membership database and analyze data and prepare reports as required.
b. Conduct background checks as needed.
c. Maintain files on contracts and agreements, participating in negotiations and renewals as appropriate.
d. Support the Personnel Committee’s administrative activities, including personnel file maintenance, background checks, coordination of annual health benefits review, and preparation of annual worker’s compensation report.
3. Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor/Head of Staff.
4. Comply with First Presbyterian Church’s policies for staff members.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent work experience; work experience using QuickBooks and Excel; working knowledge of database and word processing software; discretion and ability to work effectively on teams, show hospitality, and foster interpersonal relationships. Experience working with volunteers desired.
