Preschool Director

Maria is thrilled to be joining the staff at First Presbyterian as their Preschool Director. She is married with four children and five grandchildren, who she loves spending her free time with. Maria has been involved in the lives of children since she was a teenager herself, volunteering to work with children with special needs while she attended school. She took a break when she married her husband, who was a Marine Corps pilot, and they started a family and traveled the world! She and her family settled in Charlottesville when her husband left active duty and has been working in the field of Early Childhood Education ever since. She has been an Assistant Teacher, Lead Teacher, Curriculum Director, Assistant Director, Director and owned her own in-home preschool for several years. During her career she has worn many hats, but the common thread has been her love for young children and her passion for working with them and their families to introduce them to the world outside their home and to help develop their love of learning!
